In this report, commissioned by Uber, we look at three key questions:

• What is the actual experience of working in the Gig Economy? order to learn more about the actual experience of working in the Gig Economy, we performed new extensive surveys of both Gig Economy workers and the general public, allowing us to compare the two, as well as how perceptions of the Gig Economy may differ from those actually working in it.
• What is the potential of the Gig Economy going forward? The Gig Economy offers policymakers a rare opportunity to expand the size of the economy, making it possible for those who can’t balance a full-time job with their other responsibilities to still earn some other income, and for others to earn additional money on the side.
• What policy steps can the Government take to best protect and support workers in the Gig Economy? In the final section of this paper we look at policies that could help this, while still preserving the flexibility that is the Gig Economy’s greatest benefit.
