Google's Impact in the EU27 2023

Public First conducted consumer and business polling, and economic modelling, to determine Google's Economic Impact across the European Union in 2023.

You can find the polling and modelling claims in our report, here. Among our findings, we found:

  • In total, we estimate that Google’s products, platforms and tools, including Search, Ads, Maps, Workspace, YouTube, Cloud, Play and Android, will help provide an estimated €179 billion in economic activity in 2023 across the European Union.
  • Generative AI could increase the size of GVA in the European Union by €1.2 trillion, while generative AI tools could save the average worker over 70 hours per year.
  • Google’s products Google Search, Google Maps, Android, and YouTube were named among the ten most helpful innovations of the last thirty years, as judged by the general public in the European Union.
  • Every year, the digital skills people have learned through Google Search boosts the economy of the European Union by €152 billion.

Polling Tables

Public First conducted anonymous surveys of 12,135 Consumers in 12 EU member states from 10 May - 30 June 2023, and of 7,731 senior business decision makers from 10 May - 30 June 2023. The consumer survey was weighted by interlocking age and gender, region, and education level to representative proportions; the business survey was weighted by employee size (business count) and region to representative proportions.
