Public First has published a new report commissioned by the Eton – Star Partnership – the collaboration between Eton College and Star Academies that has been approved to open two new sixth form colleges in Oldham and Dudley in the coming years.
This new report sets out the importance of enrichment and extra curricular activities at the heart of a vision for education for all children. It shows how such activities bolster academic and wider outcomes, but that many schools are struggling to deliver it. And, following from the Schools White Paper and a vision for enrichment being at the heart of every school, it shows a way to deliver a new enrichment entitlement, underpinned by a new longer school day.
The report includes new analysis of the network of civil society organisations – organised youth groups, sports clubs, arts and drama groups, and other voluntary organisations – who can support this new entitlement. And it shows the gaps that exist across the country, and the way in which this sector could be rejuvenated to support children wherever they are – once again giving opportunity for all.
