SMMT: Full Throttle – Driving UK Automotive Competitiveness

Our report for the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) was published this week, setting out a roadmap for the automotive industry as it helps the government meet its goals on Levelling Up and Net Zero.

We are delighted that Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has now embraced one of the key recommendations we made in the report – ensuring there are 2.3m charging points by 2030. Today’s news about Nissan building a gigafactory in Sunderland with government support is another important milestone towards a second key recommendation – that the UK needs 60GWh of battery capacity by the same date.
