Who’s Using AI at Work?

AI-powered tools have the potential to transform workplaces, but our research shows that their adoption is far from uniform. Using nationally representative polling, we found a clear divide in who is using large language models (LLMs) at work. Men, younger employees, and university graduates are significantly more likely to be incorporating AI into their roles, while women, older workers, and those without a degree are lagging behind.

This uptake gap suggests that while AI could enhance productivity across the workforce, access and adoption remain uneven. Ensuring that all workers- regardless of age, gender, or education level- have the opportunity to benefit from AI will be crucial in shaping an inclusive digital economy. The graph below illustrates this disparity, providing a snapshot of AI use across different groups. For a deeper dive into our wider research on AI adoption in the UK, visit our full report.
